Analysts predict price cuts for MacBook and iPod products

A MacBook for less than a thousand bucks? It definitely sounds like a good deal for any Apple fan. Analysts predicted that this new price point may soon become a reality due to the projected marketing strategy which will be implemented by the Cupertino-based company.

During a recent conference called by Apple last Monday, it was able to discuss various points regarding its third fiscal quarter estimates. The results of the meeting saw the company lowering its gross margin from 31.5 percent to a mere 30 percent, starting this September all the way to the entirety of fiscal 2009.

In simpler terms, this means that there will most likely be a price cut for all of Apple's existing products to maintain its momentum during a time of economic uncertainty. Analyst Gene Munster had this to say regarding the matter:

We believe there is an 80 chance Apple will introduce redesigned MacBooks and possibly new MacBook Pros at lower price points. Specifically, Apple may re-enter the $999 price point (currently $1099) with the MacBook, or test the $1,799 price point with the MacBook Pro (currently $1999).

In addition, there were also predictions of "slightly redesigned iPods" with lower costs for the iPod touch model by the time the holidays arrive. This trend certainly seems to follow in Apple's scheme to lower production costs with its other products like the iPhone 3G.

Only time will tell if the company will indeed release cheaper products. We'll be sure to pick up on any updates regarding this as soon as we get them.
