Despite
the opening of the new App Store, there will always be a couple of third-party applications that will never make it to the online download store for one reason or another. This is the reason why there will always be a place for Nullriver's Installer.app on the Apple
iPhone.
The developer recently revealed that version 4.0 is currently in its final stages of development and will continue to evolve alongside App Store. The biggest improvement in Installer 4 will be the change in the repository format. This is to address the issues linked to older repositories regarding bandwidth and compatibility.
The new repository format will allow users to download more compact packages listings from the server, three times less than its current size. In addition, a filtering system will also be implemented which will filter packages based on the firmware version you are using and only show you the packages which can be downloaded from your device.
Installer.app version 4 is estimated to be released sometime after the iPhone Dev Team releases its own
PwnageTool jailbreaker. Hopefully, both tools will be available soon and give Apple gadget users a favorable alternative to the retail applications put up on the App Store.
